Pilot Project III: Cultivation of Microorganisms from Marine Invertebrates and Screening of
Extracts and Pure Compounds for Possible Anti-Cancer Activities
(Co-Project Leaders are Dr. Peter Schupp (UOG) and Dr. Thomas Hemscheidt (CRCH))
Brief Summary of Project

The project aims to discover new natural products with anti-cancer activity from
invertebrates and their associated microorganisms.  The research focuses on two
groups of invertebrates, deep-water sponges and ascidians, which so far have not
been explored heavily as sources for marine microorganisms and secondary
metabolites as compared to their shallow water counterparts.
